Welcome to Te Arai Lodge
An eco-friendly oasis awaits you in our stunning coastal location, offering garden-to-table dining, inspiring experiences, and New Zealand's premier golf resort just a stone's throw away.
This family-run lodge exudes the grandeur of a Tuscan villa, featuring high beamed ceilings, artisanal stone walls, and a ridge-top location with sweeping views of ancient forests, rolling countryside, and the captivating white sand beaches and islands of the Mangawhai Coast.
A sun-drenched terrace, adorned with purpleheart timber beams, stretches across the entire frontage of the property, boasting a covered portico and an open fireplace – the perfect setting for savouring a glass of wine while watching the sunset.
Inside, the "Great Room" seamlessly combines open-plan dining and living areas, with a centrepiece limestone fireplace, opulent seating and iconic New Zealand artworks adorning the walls.
The tawa timber kitchen and built-in bar serve as a delightful entertainment hub, where chefs craft memorable meals from fresh organic produce sourced on-site and locally.
A serene yoga and gym studio, complete with full-length mirrors, an infrared sauna, and designer equipment, seamlessly transitions to the pool deck, providing the perfect setting for private yoga sessions, relaxing massages, and beauty treatments.
Additional dining and recreation areas include an al fresco dining courtyard and BBQ area amidst olive trees, a cinema and games room, library, office, terraced gardens, petanque court and expansive grounds, offering space for both solitude and group gatherings.
With four luxurious suites, a bunk room, and a studio room, this residence caters to multiple couples, extended families, groups of friends, corporate retreats, and intimate boutique weddings.
Each suite takes in the stunning vistas and is thoughtfully decorated with luxurious furnishings, stonewashed linen-clad beds, intimate fireplaces, outdoor baths, and sustainable amenities. This includes organic linen robes, eco-friendly bathroom products, and binoculars for bird watching.
Beyond the lodge, an adventure playground awaits, with iconic coastal walks, surfing lessons at Te Arai Beach, fishing, diving, horseback riding, gravel cycling, and beach biking. Golf enthusiasts can enjoy New Zealand’s premier golf resort, Te Arai Links, and several top 30 New Zealand golf courses, all within a short drive.
With authentic personal service from the Moores family and a team of carefully chosen staff, Te Arai Lodge is a special escape for those seeking the finest comforts without compromising the environment.

“Te Arai Lodge is a nature-nurturing eco-retreat that transports you to Tuscany, thanks to beamed ceilings in the Great Room, rolling hills that descend from the ridge-top vantage point and a cellar filled with local vintages. The warm welcomes, home-grown organic fare and family touches from two generations of the Moores family – has a soupḉon of Sicily about it, too. But that’s about where the Italian comparison ends, because Te Arai’s breathtaking cliff walks, towering native forests and surfers’ paradise coastline are pure New Zealand.” — Mr & Mrs Smith

Te Arai Lodge is a proud sponsor of NZ Forest and Bird. They also have a long-term sustained pest eradication initiative trapping possums, stoats and rats, which has resulted in a regeneration of native birdlife that now thrives in the region.
Vince and Kathy Moores have personally planted more than 4000 shrubs, trees and plants together with an extensive array of raised vegetable and herb gardens.
“Garden-to-table” is the essence of the food offering at Te Arai Lodge, using organic produce grown on the estate complemented with fresh local produce. They also produce their own olive oil and honey from the property which is served to guests.
42 solar panels sustainably power the lodge and they capture and filter all their own rain water. No chemical cleaning products are used at Te Arai; only eco-friendly natural cleaning products. Te Arai is plastic-free wherever possible with no single-use plastic used onsite.
All products provided and used onsite are New Zealand made, sustainable and plastic free. For example guests are provided with reusable GoodFor water bottles, Allbird sandals made from sugarcane, biodegradable wool slippers and refillable Sans Ceuticals body products.
